Cobden midfielder Lachie Davis claimed the Judd Cup as the under 18.5 best and fairest on Wednesday night.
Terang Mortlake’s Libby Moloney went back-to-back in the Rebekah Moroney Memorial 17 and under medal, sharing the honour with Hamilton Kangaroos’ Emily Pertzel.
Davis, who polled 18 votes to finish one clear of Bomber teammate Paddy Smith and Terang Mortlake’s Daniel Kenna, said he was surprised to win.
“I was injured at the start of the year but I was lucky enough to keep playing nearly every game and then I ended up missing another game at the end of the year with a flu,” he said.
Moloney and Pertzel, who collected a mammoth 40 votes each, both swapped ends of the court in 2017.
Moloney moved from goal defence to goal attack and Pertzel from goal attack to goal defence.
The pair’s respective teams were also stuck in a battle for finals.
“We did have a good year but I think we just missed out by 0.3 per cent to Hamilton which was a bit of a letdown,” Moloney said of the Bloods’ season.
“But we had a good year and fought hard in the end.”
Pertzel said the Roos were happy to edge into the top five.
“We worked hard from about round eight on to make our way into it,” she said.
