Travel, tourism and events co-ordinator Katrina Barnes said it was a fantastic opportunity for the diploma of travel and tourism students, many of whom had never been overseas.
Mrs Barnes said they would learn about cultural differences and the experience could help students gain employment working in Australia’s lucrative Chinese visitor market when they graduated.
The ten students will complete a work placement at the Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel where they will work in areas including reservations, concierge and help to set up for events and banquets.
Student Laura Chakir, 18, said she was very excited and the trip would be a great experience. “The Chinese are one of our most popular tourists. By working in a hotel we’ll know what their expectations are,” Laura said.
The group will depart on October 30.
