Trent Reed, who returns to the line-up as a midfield/forward rotation, has been limited in his appearances this season due to his TAC Cup duties, but has impressed coach Levi Dare in his three games with Cobden.
“He’s a very good player, a very handy inclusion for us,” Dare said. “Each time he’s played for us, he’s been impressive. Whenever he comes back, he’s looked like he’s easily been a senior player, and you can see that quality that he’s got.”
Paddy Smith was omitted, but will still get his chance to play in a semi-final when he lines up for the Bombers’ under 18.5 team.
Tait Niddrie’s season is over for South Warrnambool after injuring an AC joint in his shoulder.
He is one of three omissions for the Roosters, with Tom White and Peter Doukas both dropping back to the reserves.
Travis Parsons, Cooper Atchison and Scott Maddern have all earned a call-up from the reserves side.
Roosters coach Mathew Buck said the three would be handy inclusions as his side looks to bounce back from last week’s loss to Port Fairy.
“We think we made a few simple errors, just some basic mistakes that cost us dearly in the end,” he said of the loss to the Seagulls. “We’ve just really made a focus on doing the little things well.”
Koroit has named James North (hamstring) and Jeremy Hausler (shoulder) to return for its second semi-final clash with Port Fairy on Saturday as expected, with Taylor McKenry the only omission as yet.
Saints coach Chris McLaren said he was waiting to see how the players pulled up from Thursday night training before making a call on the second out for the team.
He said last week’s break came at a handy time for North and Hausler to ensure they were fit and firing.
“It wouldn’t have been touch-and-go, but it definitely helped those guys, that week off,” McLaren said. “We’re fresh and looking forward to Saturday.”
Port Fairy has made one change from its qualifying final-winning side, with Jake Hetherington doing enough in his first game back from a groin injury in the reserves last week to earn a call-up.
Liam Howarth will go back to the reserves, where he will be joined by Robbie Hare, who is making his return from a hamstring injury.
Seagulls coach Brett Evans said utility Jack Hollmer was “very close” to making his return from a hamstring injury as well.
“If it was a preliminary final, we would’ve played him,” Evans said.
