Emmanuel College students Sarah Zerbe, Harry Johns and Matt Hardiman said the sessions to be held at Warrnambool’s Deakin University and other locations were a chance to consolidate what they knew and gain tips for their exams.
Students will be given exam tips, standard revision notes and trial examination papers from current VCE examiners
Sarah will attend the literature session at Deakin University, English and maths in Hamilton and French in Melbourne.
She said it was a chance to learn how to go about the exam, time allocation and would help her feel more confident. “It will be good to get a second opinion from examiners and to know how to approach questions better,” Sarah said.
Harry will attend a physical education lecture in Melbourne and the chemistry session at Deakin Warrnambool. “I want to figure out what I don’t know,” Harry said. “You don’t know what you don’t know.
“It will be good to get a second opinion because if you're not understanding something now you’re going to be pretty unlucky when November comes around.”
Matt will go to the further maths session at Deakin. “There might be a different perspective or different tricks to figure it out,” Matt said. I liked that it was in Warrnambool. It’s on our backdoor.”
Sarah agreed and said it was good to have local sessions and for regional students were given the same opportunity as their metropolitan counterparts.
Deakin University provided more than 350 sponsored tickets to south-west schools which the students said had helped reduce the cost of attending such sessions.
Deakin University community engagement manager Geraldine Moloney said there had been a fantastic response from schools.
