The Timboon Demons defender – who has to forgo one night of training a week due to work commitments – says she is also constantly late to games, but it appears to be the perfect preparation for the newly-crowned Warrnambool and District league A grade best and fairest winner.
“I’m unable to get to trainings, but I’m lucky I have such a great coach and team that don’t mind if I don’t make it there for Thursday,” Marr said.
“And I am always late on game days – like, really late, to the point where everyone is ringing me, saying, ‘Are you going to get here?’.”
The mother of two was blown away by Wednesday night’s award win, which she took out ahead of South Rovers recruit Jess Rohan.
Marr, 27 – who joked she may be a “late bloomer”, given she has friends who were 24 when they claimed best-and-fairest wins – polled 30 votes to finish eight ahead of Rohan.
It was a strong return in the goal defence’s first season back since having her second child Oliver, now 15 months.
Marr previously played for Heytesbury, before stints at Hampden clubs Cobden and South Warrnambool.
Timboon Demons came knocking in 2013, but Marr – who was pregnant with her elder child Alice at the time – had to put the offer on the backburner until 2014.
But when she made her first return, netball became “more of an outlet” as her husband Bevan dealt with the debilitating effects of Guillian-Barre syndrome – the same illness that affected Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson that year.
But with Bevan back fit and firing, and the young family going strong, Marr made a triumphant return this season.
She wasted no time getting her name among the votes early, polling the maximum possible six votes in the opening two rounds.
Marr was temporarily replaced by South Rovers recruit Jess Rohan atop the leaderboard in round five, but continued to rack up best on court appearances throughout the season.
“I’m shocked, I’m blown away … I wasn’t expecting any of it,” Marr said.
Marr also took out the senior netball MVP award, winning with 39 votes to finish one ahead of Rohan (38).
She thanked her family – including parents Peta and Peter – for their support during the year.
Marr’s Demons are hoping to defeat Kolora-Noorat in Sunday’s semi-final.
