Murphy said Hasta La Gorby appreciated heavy tracks and the eight-year-old would get that at the ‘Bool after nearly 40 millimetres of rain had fallen at the track in the past week.
The running rail will be in the true position for the eight-race program.
“Hasta La Gorby is a real wet tracker,” the respected trainer said.
“The wetter the better. I could have took him to Gawler for a 1500-metre race but the better option was to run at Warrnambool on heavy ground over 1300 metres.”
Murphy said her biggest concern with Hasta La Gorby was the wide barrier.
“He’s drawn the widest barrier but I reckon there’ll be a lot of scratchings on Thursday morning,” she said. “Jockey Holly McKechnie has a good understanding of the horse. She should have him sitting on the pace. I thought he was unlucky last time in stronger company.”
The first race is scheduled to start at 12.55pm with the last due to begin at 4.30pm.
