V/Line spokeswoman Catalina Filip said the train would be back in action for the noon service.
“One service will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey on the Warrnambool line today and we apologise to passengers for the inconvenience,” she said.
A fault was discovered on the carriages scheduled to operate a Warrnambool service today.
The 7.20am service from Melbourne to Warrnambool ran as a VLocity train to South Geelong and was replaced with buses to Warrnambool, while buses have replaced the 9.05am train.
Ms Filip said no other services were expected to be replaced by buses due to the fault.
V/Line advised passengers on its Twitter account the 7.20am Melbourne to Warrnambool train would terminate at South Geelong station.
A later tweet advised the Warrnambool to Melbourne train would not run and would be replaced with buses.
