The Warrnambool man will appear in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a bail/remand hearing.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Andrew Raven said the man had been due to appear in court on September 1 charged with family-violence matters relating to his mother.
He has a significant criminal history.
Police allege he was then involved in the theft of alcohol at both a supermarket and a hotel on July 28 and 29 and was captured on security camera footage at both businesses.
He was arrested overnight, appeared before a bail justice and was remanded in the police cells to appear in court on Tuesday.
