Spence was hurt in the Magpies’ 19.13 (127) to 12.10 (82) win over Hamilton Kangaroos at Melville Oval on Saturday.
Camperdown coach Phil Carse said the injury looked minor but would sideline him from the Pies’ Hampden league season-ending fixture against Warrnambool.
Spence, who has a history of hamstring problems, was struck down in the second quarter on Saturday.
“He had his best first quarter I have seen him play,” Carse said.
“He kicked three goals and had 14 or 15 possessions in the first quarter alone.
“He set an amazing standard.”
Carse credited the Magpies’ ball use entering their attack as a catalyst in what was a topsy-turvy match.
Jordan Bain (six goals) and Riley Arnold (three) were the beneficaries.
“I think our boys were able to link up well out of defence and run and and spread well,” he said.
“We were effective in our forward line. We had 58 inside 50s for 33 scoring shots.”
Hamilton Kangaroos coach Matt Dunn said ill ruckman Jack Pertzel battled on manfully after James Whyte went down with an ankle injury in the opening minutes. The Kangaroos also unveiled teenage Coleraine key forward Darcy Russell who played on permit.
“We’d like to get him in. As a 19-year-old he shows plenty of promise,” he said.
“Hopefully he enjoyed the opportunity.”
