Club superintendent David Warnaar said the damage was to the par four 11th green.
“Sometime between 7pm Friday and 5am Saturday, someone has decided to go in and do a bit of damage with a car,” he said.
“It was on one green and a section of a fairway.”
Warnaar said Warrnambool police inspected the damage on Saturday morning.
“They will ask people who live in the street if they’ve seen anything,” he said.
“They’ll review the footage on the CCTV camera at the front gate and hopefully something comes out of that.
“It wasn’t a 4WD – the tracks on the greens are standard tyres so it could be any sort of sedan or ute.”
Warnaar said Warrnambool Golf Club staff worked hard to rectify the damage and ensure Saturday competition could use the green.
“It wasn’t as severe as last time it happened three or four years ago,” he said.
“We won’t have to replace the green like last time.
“We patched it up this morning and had it ready for play.
“In a couple of weeks’ time when it’s settled and taken root again, we’ll fix it up completely.”
