The former Woodford wicketkeeper-batsman is learning from fellow Warrnambool and District Cricket Association export Tim Ludeman.
Jackson, 16, and former South Australian wicketkeeper Ludeman will be teammates at Victorian Premier Cricket club Geelong next season.
The pair are also connected via the Victorian Cricket Academy which runs weekly sessions at the MCG.
“He’s the wicketkeeping coach for the Bushrangers now so every Tuesday night and at Vic tryouts he is there,” Jackson said.
“It’s been good for me.
“I never used to work much on my keeping and I’ve found ‘Ludes’ and he’s been good.
“(I’ve learned) it doesn’t matter how it looks sometimes, you’ve just got to catch the ball, and he’s helped me out with technical things too.”
Jackson will join fellow Western Waves talent, Dunkeld-based Lachie Field, in the 13-man Vic Country squad at the nationals next month.
The Woodford premiership player said his ability to retain his place in the team, having made it as a bottom-age prospect 12 months ago, justified a decision to move closer to Melbourne to better his cricket.
Jackson and his father Anthony are now based in Geelong.
His mother Bec and brother Charlie, 5, remain in Warrnambool.
“I am still finding my feet a little bit and miss my family,” he said.
“I try and get back as much as a I can to see my little brother and Mum.”
