The Belgium-based cyclist just keeps getting better with age and has decided to rided into his 40s after signing on for another season with Orica-Scott.

Hayman has often captained the Australian team over the past four years and played a crucial role in Simon Yates winning the white jersey at the Tour de France this year.

The Canberra export has proved a crucial mentor for the young Orica-Scott squad and has long been praised by team management for guiding their up and coming talent at the elite level.

Hayman welcomed twins into the world in February and was considering retirement at the end of the season, but with body and mind still fresh he's opted to keep pedalling in 2018.

"I am really happy to being staying at Orica-Scott, I have really found my home here and I am grateful that the team still have faith in me as I am now getting very old," Hayman said.

Orica-Scott has improved every season and is becoming a consistent performer in the early season classics, which Hayman will target once again next year.

"I love the classics and will be focusing on those races again. We have grown as a team in these races and I am really excited to see what we can do in 2018," Hayman said.

Team director Matt White said with 17 years of experience under his belt the highly respected and knowledgeable Hayman plays an integral role in balancing their young squad.

"Although Maty didn't start with us he will certainly eventually finish with us," White said.

"We have always had a younger developing team and to have a guy with that much experience like Mat around those younger guys, it really has been invaluable.

"The younger riders needed time to develop and the older guys have taken the pressure over the past years to give them time to do that at their own speed."

White said with his relentless and uncompromising approach Hayman still has plenty to offer on and off the bike and believes the team must soak in everything they can from Heyman while he's still in the saddle.

"When you have a guy on your team who is winning Paris-Roubaix after 15 attempts, it's a never say die attitude, which is the attitude we want in our young guys," White said.

"Success doesn't come overnight but if you keep working hard anything is possible and Mat Hayman has proven that."

Meanwhile, Nathan Haas has signed a two-year deal Katusha Alpecin.
