The pipe ruptured south of the railway bridge on Simpson Street near the intersection with Bostock Street, a spokesperson said.
They said it was unknown how long the repairs would take but maintenance crews had attempted to limit the number of customers affected.
The burst main lifted part of the nature strip and nearby footpath.
The Wannon Water spokesperson said they were attempting to get it fixed as soon as possible.
