However some events will be weaned off the funding program to avoid a “reliance” on the council for money.
Newer events such as the Port Fairy Jazz Festival and Macarthur’s Music In The Vines will receive $5000 and $7000 respectively to assist in the running of their 2018 outings.
But Moyne Shire’s report into the festival and events funding allocations notes that the jazz festival and Music In The Vines amounts should be “recognised as seed funding”, with the jazz festival to be entitled to reduced amounts over the next two years but no more after that, and Music In The Vines to be advised that “any request (next year will) be a final contribution from council”.
The council has also asked for “future business plans” from the Lake School of Celtic Song & Dance, the Koroit Irish Festival and the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival to show “evidence of plan to reduce reliance on council funding”.
Recipients of festival and event funding include:
- Panmure Action Group’s Anzac Day event – $1800
- Lake School of Celtic Song & Dance – $4,000 to fund equipment and asset hire and marketing program
- Koroit Irish Festival – $10,000 to fund infrastructure (fencing, tables and chairs) which can be used by other Koroit events and community activities
- Moyneyana Festival – $10,000
- Koroit Show – $3000
- Port Fairy Women’s Weekend – $725 to subsidise ticket costs
- Port Fairy Spring Music Festival – $8,000 to establish Southcombe Park production
- Hawkesdale Christmas Carols – $1000
- Messiah Recital – $975 for instrument hire and advertising
- Commonwealth Sheepdog Trials in Port Fairy – $2000 for marketing
- Mortlake Christmas Parade & Carols – $2000 for equipment hire and program development
- Koroit Truck Show – $3000 for marketing
- Port Fairy Summer Beach Festival & Carnival – $3000 for marketing
Moyne Shire will also contribute $4400 to the Mortlake Cup by becoming a race naming rights sponsor.
Crs Jordan Lockett and Daniel Meade praised the diversity of festivals and events that had successfully applied for funding, with Cr Lockett calling it “a good representation of Australian culture across Moyne Shire”.
Cr Meade said the supported events brought a combined expenditure of over $882,000 to the region.
