The carousel is located at Heywood Apex Park and has been jointly funded by Glenelg Shire Council and children’s charity Variety.
Glenelg Shire mayor Cr Anita Rank said it was an exciting addition to the town.
“It is a fantastic outcome for all residents,” Cr Rank said.
Cr Rank said that Heywood was an ideal location for the wheelchair carousel due to its existing all-access features and its close proximity to surrounding townships.
“Apex Park was a natural fit to house the new wheelchair carousel because of the accessible connections that are already offered in the play space,” she said.
“The park offers all access elements such as pathways, swing unit, maze, wobble bridge, toilets, drinking fountain, and picnic tables. Council is very supportive of all-access equipment.”
