EKB teams Country Girls, Them Girls and Illuminate are vying for national glory at the FISAF Australia National Championships in Brisbane from Thursday to Sunday.
EKB coach Emma Bellman said nerves were building, but the group had confidence in its ability to match it with the best in the nation.
She said more than 20 south-west athletes had jetted to Queensland to partake in the competition’s semi and final rounds in fitness teams, trios, pairs and singles.
“The sections are bigger and even more competitive this year so it's going to be a challenge but we believe we have done enough to be up there among the best,” Bellman said.
“There are a lot of nerves among the squad which isn't unusual when you are headlining into the national championships.
“But as the competition day approaches these nerves will become excitement to perform and help achieve great routines.”
Bellman said her athletes had been working on the routines since late last year.
She said a number of athletes were vying to impress selectors for an international berth.
“Everyone has specific individual and team goals but overall we would love to see some podium placings for our national squad athletes,” Bellman told The Standard.
We’d also like to see some world qualifications for our international squad athletes from here.”
