Killarney-based Nancie Schipper and Shane Howard are basking in the spotlight thanks to new releases.
Schipper has released her new single Corner Store. The song is on rotation on triple j and is surging up the triple j Unearthed charts.
The week of its release, Corner Store rose to #22 on the overall and #6 on the pop triple j Unearthed charts. Now in its second week, the song has risen to #5 and #3 respectively.
A film clip for the song is due to be released within a fortnight. The song is a forerunner to Schipper’s second album, which will be released by the end of the year.
The success of the single and the planned release of the album add further to what has been a memorable year for the Killarney teenager.
The year reached an early high in March when Schipper played at the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
Howard has also released a new single, a collaboration with another Australian music veteran, John Schumann.
The single, Times Like these, is a protest song with the pair expressing their frustrations on a range of topics including the damage to the Great Barrier Reef, the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians and the prominence and influence of reality television.
Schumann is the former frontman of Australian band Redgum.
Howard has announced his latest live dates, beginning with a show in Broome on August 12.
Other shows include the Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival in Queensland on August 18, the 2 Worlds Festival in Fyansford on September 2 and the Dubbo Riverfest on September 16.
