The Anchor Point South Coast team member said a lack of Victorian races overs the past couple of months meant he would be going into the five-day tour “a little bit underdone compared to last year” – his brother and teammate Sam having his wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago doesn’t particularly help their cause, either.
“I’ve sort of always been around the top 20, but haven’t really had a team behind me to get an overall win,” he said.
“I think we’ll just be going for breakaways and stage wins.”
Lane will particularly be targeting the Cape Bridgewater and Casterton legs of the six-stage race, with the hill climbs playing to his strengths.
“There’s a pretty steep climb that goes for one or two kilometres and there was probably about 10 of us theat were left every time (last year) over the climb,” he said.
The tour starts out at Mount Gambier on Wednesday.
