Mark Wilson, also known as Davis, 58, of Kent Road, Hamilton, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody to appear in Hamilton court on Wednesday this week.
Police said that Mr Wilson had previously been the subject of 11 reports to police involving six different women.
Mr Wilson and a woman had been in a relationship for six months and she bought a property about 25 kilometres out of Hamilton.
On February 27 Mr Wilson had been drinking alcohol during the day and night and a verbal argument turned physical.
He grabbed her by both arms, lifted her arms and then pushed her to the ground and to the back.
In a second incident the following day it's alleged Mr Wilson grabbed the woman by the throat and she demand he leave her home.
She instead left and reported the incident to police.
An intervention order was put in place to protect the woman.
On May 8 he returned and asked if he could stay.
She woke up to find him choking her late at night with both hands around her neck.
He repeatedly asked who she was in a relationship with but the victim passed out.
Mr Wilson then put him knees on the woman's shoulders to pin her down and punched her a number of times to the face and head which caused headaches for weeks.
Mr Wilson said he needed to get out of custody to feed his animals.
Magistrate Ann McGarvie said the allegations were incredibly serious and photos of injuries showed the extent of the physical violence inflicted, including black eyes and shocking bruising to the woman's neck.
