Rangers coach Cameron Pyke said his charges were below their best against Creswick Cougars, but the 5-1 win was enough to launch his side into fourth spot.
“We didn’t play to our best – we were lucky coming up against Creswick, who are the bottom of the ladder, (in that) we got away with a few silly mistakes we wouldn’t have been able to against teh top teams,” he said.
Pyke lauded striker Ryan Bail as a “real talisman” in the Rangers’ attack after he got a hat-trick for the second week running.
The Rangers took until the 40th minute to break through for their first goal, with Bail converting a penalty, but just two minutes later the team had its second to going into half-time with a 2-nil advantage. Pyke said the Warrnambool side had a better second half, slotting in three goals, although they also conceded one to the Cougars.
Meanwhile, the Rangers’ women had a 3-1 win over Vic Park at Jones Oval on Sunday.
