The signage directing people to the popular tourist attraction has been upgraded, with displays on the corner of Logans Beach and Blue Hole roads and at the entrance of the Logans Beach carpark redesigned.

Both signs now feature an image of a breaching whale taken by Warrnambool photographer Perry Cho of Patient Eye Imaging.

Mr Cho said he took the photos in 2008, when there was 28 whales at Logans Beach. 

“It was a great whale season that year,” he said.

“It’s just a great experience.” 

The internationally recognised symbols for ‘toilets’ and ‘information’ have also been added.

The existing timber frames have been retained with new aluminium panels installed.

Warrnambool City Council mayor Kylie Gaston said the new signs not only made it easier to find the whale viewing platform, they also created a ‘sense of arrival’.

“The existing signage was beginning to show its age, and didn’t do justice to the simply breathtaking experience they were promoting,” Cr Gaston said. “The whales are a source of great pride for our city. Seeing the image of a breaching whale on the new signs is a great reminder of just how lucky we are to be able to view these awe-inspiring animals only a few hundred metres off our shore.”

Cr Gaston said the whales had bought plenty of people to the city.

“There are not many places you can get so close like you can at Warrnambool,” she said. The council has laid material at muddied grassed areas being used for additional parking and are collecting rubbish more frequently at the site.

Coffee vans and even a sausage sizzle have taken advantage of the season. The informative whale signage on the viewing platform will also be improved over the coming weeks in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
