The Blues bolted out of the blocks with a phenomenal first quarter, shooting 18 goals to five en route to a 58-38 win at Melville Oval.
“We shot really accurately … we just converted off basically every turnover we got off them,” Cust said.
“They moved their team around a fair bit every quarter.
“It made it hard for us, because we had to keep adjusting each quarter, but that first quarter held us in good stead – it’s not often you’re up by 13 at the first break.”
The Kangaroos fought back in the second term, dropping in 14 goals to 11, but the Blues pulled away again in the second half, shooting 13-8 in the third and 16-11 in the last.
Cust was particularly impressed with Taylah Antonio’s work in the circle – she finished with 31 goals – while Chantelle Moloney had a “ripper” game in wing defence.
