Eagles co-coach Jody Roth said the second-quarter injury rattled her charges, but they dug deep in the last quarter to salvage a draw after trailing at each break.
An ambulance had to be called for Billings, who had been playing centre.
“It was just horrendous to see our player go down,” Roth said.
“It happened to be her other leg, not the leg she did her knee on twice (before).”
Billings returned to the team at Bushfield this season after a year on the sidelines with a knee injury and made an instant impact.
Roth lauded the effort of Billings’ twin Jordyn, who stayed on the court and was one of the Eagles’ top contributors, despite being understandably shaken.
The Eagles’ challenge now is to find a way to cover the significant loss of Billings as they look to maintain their spot in the hunt for the Hampden open grade flag.
“She was in such good form; she was playing excellent netball and I gave her the opportunity to run out in centre,” Roth said.
“We’ll regroup and we’ll look at plan B – there’s always a plan B and plan C.”
Roth said after speaking with Billings that the talented netballer was keen to stay involved with the open grade group, helping out the team’s shooters.
