Dean said the 40-all result highlighted the Kangaroos’ improvement over the course of the Warrnambool and District league A grade season.
“We came out and had a slow start against Rovers last time and were down 17-1 and yesterday after the first quarter it was 12-11,” she said.
“I am really proud of them. We’re a very young side and we’ve just grown and grown in confidence.”
Russells Creek was four goals down entering the final change but fought its way back.
“We made the most of turnovers and got two or three goals in front and I thought ‘it’s still not enough, there’s too much time to go and Rovers are not a top-four side for nothing’,” Dean said.
“They got in front with with less than a minute to go.
“It was our centre and we got a goal and drew it.”
In other games A grade matches, Dennington thrashed Old Collegians 72-33 and Merrivale was too strong for Allansford, winning 37-24.
