The damage bill comes as a spokeswoman for NBN Co said phone and internet services to most of the affected homes and businesses had been restored by Friday afternoon.
About 110 businesses and homes had been affected by the outage since Wednesday.
NBN Co corporate affairs advisor Kasey Ellison thanked the community for their patience.
“People that continue to be affected by the temporary interruption should speak with their retail service provider who will be able to keep them updated on the restoration time,” she said.
Cobden police said vandals had deliberately damaged the infrastructure and their investigations were continuing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact Cobden police on 5595 1550 to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
