Western Victoria MP James Purcell will chair the committee, which will use $7.5 million allocated in the state budget. Other members will be South West Healthcare acting CEO Craig Fraser, Russell Worland, Peter Headen and Vicki Jellie.
“I know the hospital redevelopment has been something close to the hearts of everybody in Warrnambool and right throughout this district,” Mr Andrews said.
“The future of the hospital matters to a lot of people.”
“As you all know we’ve provided $7 million in this year’s budget. We’ve asked James Purcell to chair that community advisory group to do the detailed planning to make sure that what is an asset that is owned by the community, the next stage of its development is equally owned by the community.”
Mr Andrews also said he would visit Warrnambool Special Developmental School in future and agreed with the community about the need for improvements.
“That’s why there’s $5 million provided in the budget and that’s why future stages of that development will be funded, it’s just a matter of the sequence and the time that it takes,” he said.
“They do a great job there and I’m disappointed in the schedule today I can’t manage to get there, but I look forward to being there at some point in the future.”
