SOUTH-WEST councillors will be invited to a screening of marriage equality doco The Queen Of Ireland.

F Project Cinema is screening the film on August 23 at Mozart Hall in Warrnambool to celebrate the local council’s vote in support of same-sex marriage.

“We are impressed by the leadership shown by the council around the issue of marriage equality,” the film society’s secretary Emma Charlton said.

F Project Cinema will be inviting councillors from the surrounding shires in the hopes they too will pass a similar motion.

“We think all the region's councils should get on board,” Dr Charlton said.

“I don’t think you can watch (The Queen Of Ireland) and not understand why it’s an important issue.”
