Rebels coach Gerard FitzGerald said the TAC Cup side struggled to maintain possession – particularly in the third quarter – and were ineffective at defending turnovers, going on to lose 7.13 (55) to 12.8 (80) despite managing the same amount of scoring shots.
“We got a reasonable amount of the ball – 318 possessions – but we didn’t use the ball well enough to really get flow,” he said.
“The opposition hurt us on the rebound.
“(The scoreline) was a bit indicative of our foot skills for the day – it was a bit below what we would require.”
Cobden’s Trent Reed was was among the Rebels’ best, accruing 21 touches, kicking a goal and laying 10 tackles, as was Terang Mortlake’s Scott Carlin, who had 18 possessions, took five marks and laid five tackles.
