Club manager Trevor Brown said Warrnambool trio Caleb Perry, Will Mackenzie and Fraser Marris, Port Fairy duo Matt Cameron and Noah Best and Timboon-based Hamish Huffadine were chances to take out the 36-hole event next week. The two-day competition, which runs on Monday and Tuesday, will also determine the Western District Golf Association champion.

Brown said up to 60 golfers were expected to compete at Warrnambool in various competitions.

“They range from 18 down to nine years old and there’s a whole range of events – 36-hole scratch and handicap,” he said.

“It’s a unique tournament because we look after the higher quality players but it also goes down to a nine-hole non-handicap event on a modified course.”

The Warrnambool competition follows the one-day Port Fairy Alec Calvert junior tournament on Sunday.

Both events are state averages-listed and help determine Golf Victoria development squads.
