After commenting on a Facebook post by South Coast Forklifts about their purchase of a boom lift (similar to a cherry picker) that can reach close to 60 metres (or 186 feet) in height, Chris Dowling was challenged to head up in the equipment to raise money for The Royal Children’s Hospital.
The boom lift will be the only one of its kind anywhere in southern Australia outside Melbourne. For each foot Mr Dowling scales on Saturday July 15, a dollar will be donated to charity.
A crowdfunding page for the event (give.everydayhero.com/au/chris-v-goliath), dubbed ‘Chris vs Goliath’, has already raised $690.
South Coast Forklifts hire controller Pete Smith said the company hoped the equipment would provide a cost-efficient option for works on tall buildings, wind turbines and other projects.
