Leading Senior Constable Sally Frazer from the Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit said two or more offenders had broken into a storage area in the Port Fairy region between April 30 and May 2.
She said the offenders had forced entry and stole antique swords, bayonets and firearms.
Leading Senior Constable Frazer said the victim had been a collector since he was a child and the items had a great deal of sentimental value.
She said an 1840s antique gun, bayonets from the 1870s to 1880s and samurai swords had also been stolen.
Leading Senior Constable Frazer urged antique businesses or businesses that sell collectibles to contact police if they had seen any of the stolen items.
“Some items have been recovered but we’re appealing for anymore information to help relocate these items,” she said.
Anyone with any information should contact Warrnambool police on 5560 1116 or 1800 333 000.
