Lachlan Hutchins, 22, of Golf Course Road, Heywood, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until July 10.
Police said Mr Hutchins was bailed from the Heywood police station on June 19 after being charged with driving in a manner dangerous and other driving offences.
Three days later Mr Hutchins asked his mother to use her car even though he did not have a driver's licence.
She refused.
That sparked an altercation and Mr Hutchins pushed his mother to the back, she fell and struck her head on a coffee table, causing cuts and abrasions to her forehead.
The next day there was another incident when Mr Hutchins again wanted to use his mother's car.
He smashed her mobile phone, pushed her to the floor and then knelt on her head.
His mother couldn't breathe and told police she was in constant fear, terrified and petrified.
Mr Hutchins told the magistrate during the bail application he had been in jail for past birthdays and he wanted to be out for his coming birthday and to see his daughter.
He said he wanted to continue on his current corrections order and "do good in the community".
"I understand I did wrong. I'm remorseful and I'd like a second chance. I need to have my head right," he said.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said the corrections order had been imposed for a weapons charge and Mr Hutchins had 17 pages of prior offences.
She said Mr Hutchins faced very serious charges including four assault-related offences which happened on consecutive days.
The magistrate refused bail, ordered that Mr Hutchins be medically assessed and noted he was withdrawing from drug use.
