Penguins toppled tough competition in the Warrnambool Volleyball Association decider, beating Eagles in a mostly neck-and-neck bout.
Keeley, a long-time player, said the mixed gender and age competition allowed the association’s up-and-comers to develop their game with the guidance of more experienced heads.
He said his team was thrilled to take home the crown.
“It’s a really, really tight competition. We try to structure the sides so they’re even, so there aren’t ever really any dominant sides,” Keeley said.
“The younger players we had in the side have definitely improved. I’m an older player, and I’m still hanging in there, but one of the good parts of it is helping the other players develop.”
Keeley said his team’s depth was the key in snagging the grand final triumph.
“There were a couple of players missing but we had a couple of others really step up for us,” he said.

“Our net pressure was quite strong and we really piled that on.”
