Maher's younger brother Declan, foreman for the stable, highlighted the winning ride by Mertens.
“It was a very good ride by Beau,” he said. “He's riding in top form.
“We were worried before the race about a possible lack of speed, but Beau sorted it out.
“I'm not sure where Ciaron will run Schism next. I think he may give her a freshen up. Her runs are better when they’re spaced.”
Schism took her stake-earnings to more than $220,000 with the win over Tsaritsa and Mamzelle Tess.
Mertens rode a double on the nine-race card to take his tally of winners to 66, with only 10 meetings left in the 2016-17 season. His other winner was Cannyescent for the Hayes-Dabernig stable.
