Former AFL midfielder Brent Moloney is expected to slot into his former club’s onball rotation as they strive to play finals for the first time since 2011.
Roosters coach Mathew Buck, who guided the club to a ninth win from 10 games on Saturday, said he was thrilled the ex-Geelong, Melbourne and Brisbane player would line up in red and white.
Moloney, 33, retired from the top level in 2014 after 166 games.
“Brent will play after the bye against Terang,” Buck said.
“I am really excited about that. What an opportunity it is to have an ex-AFL player come back to his home club.
“It’s a great South story – a kid who went through a really great development program at South.
“It’s great to get some reward from that, where a person has gone through that and played at the highest level and is keen to come back and play for South Warrnambool.”
The Moloney coup coincides with the clearances of two other former South Warrnambool players.
Ollie Lee will line up against reigning premier Koroit next weekend, while ex-Gold Coast Sun Herbert is nursing an injury.
“It is a credit to everyone around the place I think that we’ve built something that people want to be a part of and people want to come back to,” Buck said.
