The Power proved too strong at home, defeating the Lions 40-34 in a hard-fought battle to move three wins clear of the fourth-placed Lions.
“We’re really happy to have had the win,” Kolora-Noorat coach Faye Clarke said.
“It was a tough, physical game. We really hard to work hard for it.”
The Power put in a strong first half to open up a six-goal lead. It proved to be a vital advantage after the Lions fought back in the third term to slash the gap to just two.
But nine goals to five in the last secured a valuable win for the Power, which sits just one win behind ladder leader Nirranda.
“We’re really happy … our aim at the start of the year was to make finals,” Clarke said. “As the season has gone on, we’re a possibility of (finishing) higher than that.”
Allansford co-coach Bridget Foster said a number of Cats are starting to hit their straps following a 40-29 win over Russells Creek.
The Cats were strong on their home court, leading by four goals at the first change and five at half-time, before blowing the lead out to 10 on the back of a 10-5 third term, going on to win by 11.
Foster lauded the efforts of new goaler Josie Ellen, who shot 15 goals in her second game for the A grade side.
“We’ve had a bit of a change-up with a player leaving – there’s no dramas there. We brought up a junior (in Ellen) who’s played in goals,” Foster said.
“I’ve been really proud of how she’s just taken it on the chin and taken on all the advice we’ve given her.”
Foster said while Russells Creek was “very competitive”, the Cats stuck firm to their aims to secure the win.
They have made playing more consistent netball a focus in recent weeks, and the benefits are starting to show.
“Every game has bad patches, but our bad patches probably go on too long,” Foster said. “(On Saturday) we focused on just controlling and playing at 100 per cent (for) 100 per cent of the game.
“We’ve been asking a little bit more from a few players and, as the weeks have gone on, they’ve shown their true form. Those players are just really starting to hit their straps.
“I think there’s probably big things to come from our team this year.”
Katie Burt was in sensational form for Dennington, shooting an incredible 53 goals in the Dogs’ 89-22 win over East Warrnambool.
