Ms Burns is the cook at Kulcha Shift’s Friday Feed.
Each Friday, Ms Burns leads a small team of volunteers to cook up a storm. On the menu for the disadvantaged, homeless and isolated members of the community is lasagna, soup, cake and coffee.
Ms Burns has been involved in the project since it began two years ago and is thrilled to play a role.
“I think I’m like most people, volunteering and helping others makes you feel good about yourself,” Ms Burns said.
“We have a good team here and it is a good cafe atmosphere.”
Ingredients for the dishes served up at the Kulcha Shift Friday Food are sourced from Warrnambool Food Share while the bread is donated by Browns Depot Bakery.
But it is not just a hearty meal that is on offer each Friday. The staff also offers free barista training to people between the ages 16-24.
