Club joint chairperson of football Michael Jongebloed said play was held up midway through the third quarter at Davidson Oval after Robinson was collected in a “clumsy tackle”.
Trainers were reluctant to move the teenager as he had pain in his neck, instead stopping the game and calling for an ambulance.
“There was no malice in it, it was just one of those incidents,” Jongebloed said. “It was just clumsy; it wasn’t intentional.”
With paramedics treating the teenager on the scene before taking him to hospital, the game was abandoned when 30 minutes elapsed without play resuming.
Robertson was discharged from hospital and was back at the clubrooms in a neck brace on Saturday night.
Jongebloed said it was believed Robertson may have sustained ligament damage in the side of his neck, but was set to get an MRI scan on Monday.
The Standard understands that as the game had reached its second half, the score will stand as it was, with Old Collegians claiming a 12.10 (82) to 2.7 (19) win.
Russells Creek coach Heath Moloney said he was happy with his players’ output, despite the lopsided scoreline. “I was happy with our pressure in the back line,” he said. “Our midfield stood up and just got the run going a bit – we just couldn’t convert.”
