The pair recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with two dozen family and friends.
“We joined a lot of organisations together during our married life,” Mr Beard said. “We took trips overseas and we even took tours and we’ve done it all together.”
The couple, now living in Warrnambool, were married on Saturday June 8, 1957.
Now in their 80s, the family-focused duo said weddings had changed over the years.
“Everything was done locally back in the day,” Mr Beard said. “It was all local suppliers and just family and friends, much simpler than today.”
Mr Beard said they were married by the local minister in Woolsthorpe.
“Helen was from Woolsthorpe so we got married at the Woolsthorpe Presbyterian Church,” he said. “The reception was then at the Woolsthorpe Hall and then we drove to Sydney and Canberra for 10 days, it was a big adventure for us.”
