Warrnambool City councillors have approved an increase to their annual wages.

Under the new allowances approved at the June monthly meeting, the mayor will receive $76,521 per year and councillors will get $24,730, plus superannuation.

It is an increase from the mayor’s allowance of $74,655 and councillors’ payment of $24,127 until the end of the 2016 term.

No submissions on the allowances were received during the 28-day public comment period.

The state government sets the range for allowances.

Warrnambool City Council is classed as a category two council with a councillor allowance range from $10,284 to $24,730 per year.

Moyne and Corangamite shire mayors and councillors receive the same remuneration as Warrnambool.
