The drama began at 4am on Wednesday when police attempted to intercept a stolen white Nissan Navara at the Warrnambool Gem Club carpark.
Before they could be intercepted, the driver of the stolen car accelerated, with the occupants of the car hurling tools at police before driving erratically into a dead-end street.
Sergeant James van Engelen of Warrnambool police said that once cornered in the dead-end street, the driver did a u-turn and drove at the police car.
“The van took evasive action and the offending car rammed into the rear of the divisional van,” Sergeant van Engelen said.
Police attempted to intercept the Queensland-registered vehicle and a short pursuit followed but was soon terminated.
The car was later found dumped in Maxwell Grove about 5am.
Just after 2pm, police attempted to intercept a different vehicle, also bearing Queensland plates, and believed to be occupied by the same people, but the vehicle evaded police.
Police believe the people involved may also have links to an attempted armed robbery at the BP service station on Mortlake Road around 3.30pm.
Investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Warrnambool police on 5560 1333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
