“Change is inevitable in the current environment,” Mr Kanoa said.
“As CEO it is my responsibility to ensure we continue to build a sustainable organisation, that we meet the needs of our community and that we continue to support our employees through the process,” he said.
Mr Kanoa is a proud Gunditjmara man with family from the Portland region.
In recent years he has lived and worked in Melbourne within social service providers and the Department of Human Services.
Gunditjmara chairperson Billy McGuinness said the cooperative was “moving into a new future.”
“One where funding models are changing away from bulk funding to individualised funding. We need to change and grow if we are to continue to meet the needs of our community,” Mr McGuinness said.
Other new appointments at the cooperative include John Coxon as operations manager and Julie Anne Crow as primary healthcare manager. Both have consultancy backgrounds and have worked with healthcare providers and non-profit organisations.
They join longstanding services manager Glenda Thompson and finance manager Tafadzwa Chitava.
The cooperative has also established a new organisational structure and ongoing access to support from the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Healthcare Organisation peak body (VACCHO).
