A blistering start set the Saints on the path for a 54-29 win over the Blues, with shooter Nell Mitchell hauling in 49 goals in windy conditions to play a starring role.
“Nell was unreal; she shot 49 goals. She had a pearler,” Owen said.
“We’re really confident (after the win), but not over-confident. There’s still a few teams that we haven’t played yet. We won’t get ahead of ourselves.”
The Saints went in eager for a strong start and got just that, dropping in 15 goals to eight in the opening term. They’d extended their lead to 15 by the main break and were up by 14 at three-quarter-time before winning by 25.
Koroit got its wish of having the freedom to make some positional changes if the game allowed, running four through the goals and switching things at the defensive end as well.
