Xavier Johnson-Blount was prolific in his return for the Seahawks, draining 44 points, while Dom Occhipinti played well, sinking 10 points despite some turnover worries, according to coach Matt Alexander.

“Everyone was a little bit turnover-prone,” Alexander said. “They were up and at us.

“(But) we were making good plays and seeing good opportunities.”

The Seahawks got within four points of the Thunder in the third term, but a 50-50 call that went against Johnson-Blount saw momentum swing against the visitors as Keilor scored from free throws and a couple of consecutive baskets to suddenly add eight points to the buffer.

The Mermaids kept their unblemished start to the season alive with a comprehensive 102-46 thumping of the last-ranked Gators.

They top division two team flexed its muscles, with Molly McKinnon, who top scored for the game with 23 points, leading the way at the Arc.

Ten of the eleven Mermaids who took the court shot baskets, with Amy Wormald (14 points) and Taylah Nelson (13) the other top contributors.

The Seahawks’ youth men’s team put up a fighting effort against Craigieburn Eagles, going down 80-94 on Saturday night, and lost Sunday’s game against top-two side Casey Cavaliers 65-111.
