In the school’s second School Sport Victoria Premier League clash, Emmanuel was stunned by a slick Essendon Keilor College outfit who slotted four goals to one in the opening term on Wednesday.
Emmanuel fought their way back into the contest, but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard, eventually falling by 30 points.
Emmanuel College senior football coach Michael Clements said he was proud of his charges’ fighting spirit.
“They jumped us early, they just smashed us,” he said.
“They were too fast, too clean. We couldn’t create any defensive pressure and they were just tall and athletic up forward. We struggled to contain them.
“They dominated and going in trailing by three goals at quarter time, we knew it probably wasn’t the worst possible result for us.”
Warrnambool College senior football coach Danny Finn said his side was visibly outclassed in its 136-point loss to Hallam Senior College on Wednesday.
Finn said his players were given an insight into an “elite” system and described it as an “eye-opening” experience.
“Bigger schools like Hallam have had that program entrenched for about 10 years,” he said.
“Even their rehab straight after the game was first-class. It’s that elite state school system and it gives us a bit of hope for the future.” Emmanuel will host Hallam Senior College in two weeks, while Warrnambool College will play Essendon Keilor College.
