At 11am, at libraries, schools, bookshops, hospitals and homes across the country, children read The Cow Tripped Over The Moon by Tony Wilson.
The National Simultaneous Storytime Warrnambool event attracted more than 200 children and parents.
It was moved from the Civic Green to the Lighthouse Theatre due to wet weather.
Warrnambool children’s services library officer Julie Struth read the book and said it was a fantastic community response.
“The kids were attentive and listened to the story. We had craft activities and games to play afterwards,” she said.
“All of the Corangamite Regional Libraries were reading it today.
“It’s a good way to promote reading and Australian authors as there are so many who produce good quality children’s books. It’s a great way to highlight them.”
