The initiative, introduced 10 years ago, sees children grow, harvest and cook with fresh produce sourced from the school’s garden.
Parent volunteer Tory Robinson helped them cook a vegetable curry on Tuesday as part of Education Week celebrations.
Mrs Robinson said the program had increased her children Oscar, 7, and Sam’s, 9, interest in cooking and the students had embraced the garden and associated roles.
She said the best thing about the program was seeing the children try new foods and having their eyes opened up to new flavours. “We only cook with what we’ve grown ourselves,” Mrs Robinson said.
Charlotte Noonan, 11, said she enjoyed trying new foods and carrot was her favourite vegetable to grow. “I often tell my mum and dad what we made and sometimes we take home the recipes home to try them if we like them.”
