Flaherty downed Victorian state player Kono Matsumoto to help Commonwealth Golf Club atone for last year’s division one women’s grand final defeat against Victoria Golf Club on Sunday.
She dashed back to the south-west straight after the feat, playing a key role in Port Fairy’s dominant Western District Golf Association triumph over Portland 3.5 to 1.5 matches on Monday in Hamilton.
The 21-year-old said she was beginning to feel the fatigue from a hectic schedule but said the adrenalin was yet to wear off.
“I’m starting to feel a bit tired now, but after the (Commonwealth) win, the adrenalin was definitely flowing,” Flaherty said.
“We had a few hours on the road, got a few hours sleep and then were straight back up to Hamilton to play for Port Fairy.”
Flaherty said her match with Matsumoto was good-natured but hard-fought.
“She’s a really strong player. I played fairly consistently for most of the day and just tried to hold my own,” she said.
She said Port Fairy was thrilled to take the Western District Golf Association women’s pennant crown.
Warrnambool’s Caleb Perry played in Commonwealth Golf Club’s colts division one grand final winning side. He claimed an important win in his Golf Victoria pennant match.
Fellow Warrnambool member Will Mackenzie was a member of Kingston Heath’s triumphant division two colts side.
