Miss Benedetta’s triumph in 1100-metre BM64 triumph followed Weir’s success with Ancient King in a maiden hurdle earlier in the program.

The result took Weir, who was celebrating his birthday, to 49 career wins at the famous three-day carnival.

Yendall was delighted with the win.

Miss Benedetta won from Shortspresso and the Symon Wilde-trained Ruby’s Eyes.

"She was really good at Stawell but needed the run," Yendall said.

"The only concern was the going. I kept her head and i don't think she really handled it but got through it (the heavy going).

"She had an easy time outside the leader. She gave me a good kick after the turn. She's got a good little motor. She's a beauty.”
