Pateman rode favourite Zed Em home from a fast-finishing Now and Zen to win the 19-hurdle race at Warrnambool.
"I am very grateful to ride with Patrick Payne," he said.
"I couldn't do the weight of the horse in the Von Doussa (but) he is so loyal to me that he let me back on.”
The Barwon Heads-based hoop said securing feature races wins at the May Racing Carnival were special.
The Brierly triumph was Pateman’s third in the feature race, having won aboard Some Are Bent in 2010 and on Palmero in 2014.
"It means a lot, Warrnambool means a lot. I am just so proud of the horse and Patrick,” he said after winning on Zed Em.
"Patrick Payne is just a master and the combination of Patrick and Kevin Myers is really hard to beat and I am glad to be a part of it.”
